Worked examples
10K in 50:00, every km
5:00, 10:00, 15:00 … 50:00 · 8:03 /mi
Marathon in 4:00:00, every mile
Mile 1 9:09 · finish 4:00:00
5K in 25:00, every 400m
12 × 400m then finish 25:00
Formulas
Arithmetic, not physiology. Pick any distance, a finish time, and a marker interval. Each clock is even pace × distance to that mark. Negative split: first half even × 1.03, second half even × 0.97; finish still matches the goal. This is a printable split sheet, not a locked 5K / half / marathon checkpoint table, and not race-equivalence. For a 5K→marathon estimate, use the race time predictor (Riegel).
- pace = time / distance
- clock = pace × mark
- 1 mile = 1.609344 km · 5K = 5.000 km · 10K = 10.000 km
- half = 21.0975 km · marathon = 42.195 km
Race checkpoints live on 5K pace · half marathon pace · marathon pace · race pace band.
FAQ
How do I print running splits?
Set a distance and a finish time, pick every mile, every km, or every 400m, then use Print. Copy puts the even and negative clocks on the clipboard as a tab-separated sheet. A 10K in 50:00 every km is 5:00, 10:00, through 50:00.
What is a mile split chart?
A mile split chart is the cumulative clock at each full mile, then finish. A 4:00:00 marathon every mile hits mile 1 in 9:09 and the line in 4:00:00 at even pace. Switch the interval chip to Every mile.
How do I make 400m splits?
Choose Every 400m. A 25:00 5K prints twelve 400m clocks (2:00 through 24:00) and finish 25:00, because 12 × 400 m is 4,800 m on a 5,000 m course.
How does a negative split chart work?
First half about 3% slower than even pace, second half about 3% faster. Finish time still matches the goal. A 50:00 10K hits 5K in 25:45 instead of 25:00, then closes in 24:15.
Is this a 10K pace calculator?
No. The default sheet is 10.000 km in 50:00 so the page paints immediately, but distance is not locked. Use this to print mile, km, or 400m splits for any race. Locked 5K, half, and marathon checkpoint pages stay on their own URLs.
