Formulas
Arithmetic, not physiology. For race equivalence, use the race time predictor (Riegel), not even-pace math.
- pace = time / distance
- mph = 60 / pace minutes per mile
- 1 mile = 1.609344 km · marathon = 42.195 km
Print a mile, km, or 400m race-day sheet on the split calculator. Hill pace to a flat-equivalent lives on the grade-adjusted pace calculator. Two all-out races to CS and D′ on the critical speed calculator. One statute mile at even pace on the mile pace calculator. A 1.5-mile PT-style run on the 1.5 mile run calculator. A 2-mile or 3200 m effort on the 2 mile pace calculator. A 3K or 3000 m effort on the 3K pace calculator. A 1500 m / metric-mile effort on the 1500m pace calculator. Dew-point heat adjustment on the heat pace calculator.
FAQ
How do I calculate running pace?
Pace is time divided by distance. SplitLab does that live: enter any two of time, distance, and pace, and the third updates as you type. Example: 5.00 miles in 47:15 is 9:27 per mile. There is no Calculate button.
What pace is a 4-hour marathon?
A 4:00:00 marathon is 9:09 per mile, or 5:41 per kilometer (6.55 mph), at even pace. That uses the World Athletics marathon distance of 42.195 km (26.2188 mi).
How do I convert min/mile to min/km?
Divide seconds per mile by 1.609344 (the international mile in kilometers), then format as m:ss. A 9:27 mile is 5:52 per kilometer. The calculator shows both whenever it has a pace.
Pace vs speed — what’s the difference?
Pace is time per unit distance (min/mile, min/km). Speed is distance per unit time (mph, km/h). They describe the same running; mph = 60 ÷ minutes-per-mile, and km/h = 60 ÷ minutes-per-km.
What pace for a 25-minute 5K?
A 25:00 5K is 8:03 per mile, or 5:00 per kilometer, at even pace.
Does this predict my marathon from a 5K?
No. Even-pace finish times assume you hold this exact pace for every distance. Predicting a marathon from a 5K needs a fatigue model such as Riegel. Use the race time predictor for that — not this page.
Why is my watch pace different?
GPS watches smooth noisy satellite data, often cut corners, and may show moving time instead of elapsed time. Treadmills measure belt speed, not overground pace. A certified road course is the distance that matters for racing.
Mile vs kilometer in the US?
US training talk is usually min/mile, while many races are labeled in kilometers (5K, 10K). A mile is exactly 1.609344 km. SplitLab defaults to miles and min/mile, and the unit toggle stays on your device with no reload.
