Formulas

Arithmetic, not physiology. Distance is locked at 1.500 international miles (2414.016 m). Pace = time / distance. This is even pace, not race-equivalence. Military, fire, and police PT charts vary — check your branch's current scoring table. This page does not clone VDOT or McMillan tables. For a fatigue-based estimate from a recent race, use the race time predictor (Riegel).

  • pace = time / 1.500 mi
  • 1.5 mile = 2414.016 m = 2.414016 km
  • 400 m track: 6 × 400 m + ~14 m stub
  • quarter-mile track: 6 × 440 yd = 1.500 mi exactly

FAQ

Who runs a 1.5-mile test?

Many military PT tests, fire and police academy fitness screens, and Cooper-style aerobic assessments use a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) run. Standards and scoring charts differ by branch, agency, age, and sex — check your current official chart. This page is even-pace arithmetic only; it does not publish scoring tables.

What pace is a 12-minute 1.5 mile?

A 12:00 1.5 mile is 8:00 per mile, or 4:58 per kilometer, at even pace (7.50 mph · 12.07 km/h). Each 400 m lap is about 1:59; on a quarter-mile (440 yd) track each lap is exactly 2:00. Distance is locked at 1.500 mi (2414.016 m).

How do I pace a 1.5-mile run evenly?

Hit the same pace every lap instead of sprinting the first 400 m. On a 400 m track you run six full laps (2400 m) plus a final ~14 m stub to 2414 m. On a quarter-mile track it is exactly six laps. Pass 1 mile on the same even pace (at 12:00 goal that is 8:00), then hold it to 1.5.

How does 1.5-mile pace relate to the mile and 5K?

Same even-pace math, different locked distances. A 12:00 1.5 mile is 8:00/mi — the same mile pace as an 8:00 mile, and similar to a mid-pack 5K. This page does not estimate a 5K or mile race from a 1.5-mile test, and it is not VDOT or McMillan. For fatigue-based race equivalence, use the race time predictor (Riegel).

Is 1.5 miles the same as 2.4 km?

1.5 international miles is exactly 2414.016 meters (2.414016 km), often rounded to 2.4 km on fitness tests. SplitLab locks this page to 1.500 mi so a 12:00 finish is exactly 8:00/mi.
